if you want to cool your video card better and don't mind losing a pci slot it'd probably be best to get an arctic cooling silencer. not only will it cool your video card, it exhausts the air out of your case, keeping your case cool, and is quiet.

for arctic coolers we have to remove the original fan though right? I don't really want to have to deal with voiding any warranties by doing such.

Yeah but it's not as bad as it sounds. I do it for every high-end system I build, stock cooling be dammed.

Well I have basically all my PCI slots open and I feel like the PCI mount fans are just easier to install.

They also don't work very well if at all.

I had my video card cooled by a PCI slot fan!!

The only problem was depending on the slot fan you buy it will not be long enough to directly cool the chip on your video card!!

I switched to the Zalman VF700 Cu and never looked back!

Sure I lost a PCI slot but your going to lose a PCI slot anyways!!

The cooling is superb and well worth the money spent!!

Don`t worry about voiding your warranty!!

The temps you will get with the zalman cooler are well worth vioding your warranty!!

Unless the computer isn`t really yours...possibly your parents computer?

Anyways get the zalman VF700 Cu and you`ll be very happy!!

I dunno...I'm just really against removing the stock heatsink/fan from the gpu, for the basic reason that I don't really know how, nor do I want to take the risk of possibly screwing something up.

The 3D fan kit thing just seems like a really good idea. Plus it's versatile... I can use it for future video cards...or anything else that needs a little cooling.

Look in this thread for some good info on slot coolers. I point to another thread here about one person's great idea with a slot fan.

Some slot coolers are decent (ie "alright but not great") for cooling cards. The main worry about them though is if they exhaust hot air out or take cool air in. Video card fans take IN air, so you the slot fan should be blowing air AT the video card. This would be a good fan to get

I don't blame you for being cautious about warrenties. For a great majority of people, $200 or $300 is no small piece of change. That being said, overclocking isn't the best option for everyone. For those who don't know a lot about it and don't want to take a risk, its better to not even bother with it. Stock parts work fine.

If you're going to stay with stock parts you probably won't even need a slot fan. If your case has poor circulation or your computer is in a hot room, a slot fan wouldn't hurt. I recommend whats mentioned in the threads I linked to. Buy an el-cheapo slot fan and rip out the fan itself. Carve out the fan opening to match with the video card fan. This will allow it to draw in cool air straight from outside the case. You'll have a much cooler computer for only $10 and you'll still have your warrenty :)

Yes!! The antec V-Cooler is the way to go!!

Excellent cooler--does what it was designed for!!
The fan is directly under where your video cards chip is!!
Most are ususally and inch short of the chip!!

Thats an excellent cooler!!
