Need a good mp3 server...

We're tired of using explorer for scanning MP3s. I like the web interface of WWWinamp (being able to quickly search through mp3s, etc.) but am looking for something that will stream a file when it is clicked, rather than opening it on the server...is there any good software for that?

i am almost done writing exactly what You want. You will have it in 2 to 3 days.. PM me in that time frame.. so I dont forget. I started writing it earlier this week (or was it late last week). Anyway its the same idea that you want that I am implementing. I am getting the basic thing up and running now. I will add multiple users and a P2P client on top later.

Andromeda is a peice of crap. I tried it. This app works at the moment but there are no buttons and stuff. I just hard coded things in for myself. I will change stuff and put a few buttons and menu's in there and release it.

This was my original thread that gave me the inspiration to write my own.

Yeah, I'm having an interesting time trying to get Andromeda running properly right now, to say the least. :|

Well, I got andromeda running, and you're right - I didn't like it very much at all. It was slower than explorer to respond to search queries, on only around 6000 mp3s. 🙁

Anyway, I'm still looking - something like the very fast WWWinamp interface (search and all), but that just queues the file locally, rather than on a server-jukebox. 😛

Also, here's a bump for the possible solution by TGG. 😀

Wow, I'd be interested in this also, when you finish it. I have 19,000 MP3's online and explorer in WinXP is one HUGE POS, it chunks all the time.

you can configure it so it doesnt scan each file each time, go through the config file settings on their page, explains it all.

I tried configuring it, but it was still slow, no matter what I tried. That's on a P3-450 with 1gb of RAM...it shouldn't have been that slow. :|

Oh the app has been ready.. for a while. I am releasing an updated one in 2 days or so. 0.0.0.2 will be released soon.
