LONG STORY
Hi guys, im a new member, and my name is dan.
I have come seeking advice on how to buy a new lcd monitor.
I know the difference between TN and PVA panels but heres my current situation.
I have two monitors
Monitor Number 1
Dell E228wfp - 22 inch 1680x1050 - 2 years old
Panel - TN
Contrast - 800:1
Brightness - 300
Monitor Number 2
Sony SDM-HX73 - 17 inch 1280x1024 - 6 years old
Panel - TN
Contrast - 500:1
Brightness - 400
Now both monitors are the craptastic TN panels but the ancient sony blows the dell out of the water in regaurd to color vibrance and contrast.
The sony's colors are decent while the dells are super dull and got to the point where i do not want this monitor anymore.
Here are two photos i snapped. The photos don't do either monitor justice since the little fishy looks amazing in real life but they do show a large gap between how rich the colors are. Try to open them into two tabs and just switch the tabs quick.

Also looking at the little color gradiant dialog from photoshop. The sony color blending is smooth (the camera photo's messed because the color box is smooth in person) while the dell's light colors are significantly different from the darker ones. There seems to be a line across the top, this is shown by the camera.
So how am i suppose to go into the market for a new monitor. I've been thinking about spending megabucks for a PVA monitor but for that kind of money i have found 42 inch hdtv's that will probably have better colors then the dell too.
Short Story
Need pc monitor mainly for videos
20-30inch
1920*1080
Needs vibrant rich colors
Do i just go to best buy and hope?
