I have a friend that uses MSN messenger or something like that to talk to his friend in New York and he is currently using a very cheap mike and was looking for something better.

This thread includes some recommendations; see in particular the 6th and currently last message. Might be overkill for your needs, guess it depends on how good you want and how much you are willing to spend.

rw: Thanks for the reply I might buy the SM57 for rocording my grandma playing the piano but i will have to see if my friend is willing to pay that much for the VR116L. Anybody with a cheaper but still decent solution feel free to contribute.

Try the Labtec 8550 headset mike combo. The microphone has noise cancellation technology for speech recognition. Worked well for me using Dialpad. You might be able to buy the just the microphone but I wouldn't recommend it. A headset is usually better to reduce echo and feedback.
