Like the title says, I am looking for a good free anti-virus to use on my Windows 2003 machine. AVG-free doesnt work on server.
I liked VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i a lot. As you can see, it's quite a configurable beastOriginally posted by: ColemontHD
Anything else? What else would you recommend?

Antivir will not work either on server. Maybe the AOL/Kaspersky Antivirus Shield? If that does not work, check Avast! If all else fails.... there is CLAMWIN.
See my sig for more options. I have never really looked to see which ones worked on Server 2k3.

You sure?
I have AntiVir running just fine on Server 2003. AVS doesn't though.

Is it the personal edition? I might have mistaken it with AVG or another version. Many of these free "home" antivirus applictations are rigged not to work with server for it is a business operating system.
Hehe, my thoughts exactlyyou can afford that OS, but not AV to support it?
VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i? Among other things, it works on 64-bit systems, as well as 32-bit. Call a McAfee rep and see if you can wheedle them into selling you just one license, rather than a big ol' package deal.Originally posted by: ColemontHD
Well, Bitdefender free doesnt work. I got the link from the free app's link here in the software section of the forums. Any other suggestions? What about the ones I may have to purchase?

I disagree. VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i is far more configurable, has buffer-overflow protection, has options that AntiVir users will never see, and you can deploy, configure and monitor eleventy-billion installations of it from one seat without putting down your coffee cup. It's not your poser drama-queen home-user version of VirusScan :evil:Originally posted by: JBT

And what AV would you recommend? Antivir is better than any of the pay AV's out there IMO... except maybe Kaspersky...

agreed...when you talk about enterprise software, you have to look at more then huristics and detection rates, you have to look at cost, cost to deploy/upgrade/maintain as part of the TCO. Paying one admin for a week to install/configure/deploy to 10K machines is a lot cheaper then a minion of A+ geeks with thumbdrives hitting every computer manually...
