I'm in the market for a desk also. I'm trying to find one that is just a flat surface and 4 legs (or more if its a corner desk.) I've had 2 crap desks from wal-mart with shelves and keyboard trays and I hate them.

I went with Ikea for one with a flat surface and 4 legs. Bought a desk top and 4 legs. If I was to do it again, I would have gone with a more expensive desk. The middle of mine is beginning to sag due to the lack of any type of support there.

Table top + Legs is what I have now.

Next time I upgrade my desk, it'll be something like this.

Get an L shaped desk if you have the room. The extra desk area is fantastic.

I agree with this. As soon as I have the space I plan on getting one since you can have a work space and a space for your laptop/computer.

How is the quality of Staples furniture? Those L-shaped desks look pretty neat, such as this one:

I have that desk. While I liked it initially, and the price was right, it quickly started to sag. The drawers now don't line up right and the hard edges of the top can hurt your arms. I'd really suggest buying a desk with a beveled table top.

Do you have any particular alternatives to suggest?

Not specific models, last time I was out looking the ones I was interested in were too much money. Maybe I'm just a cheap bastard. Post up if you find a good one.
