I'm looking for a suggestion: I need some sort of case / bag in which to keep my rebel XT and a couple of lenses when I'm transporting it or otherwise not using it. Hopefully something with a little padding to protect everything. Any ideas?

Can you be more specific? Like just how many lenses/other stuff?

Which do you prefer: Light-weight and ease of portability or a security via a hard case?

I have a Tamrac camera bag for my XT and three lenses, and it works great.

Try this page for some ideas: Bags

Alright. At the moment I've got a Rebel XT, a 70-300 IS, a 35 f/2, and the kit lens; I would also like to pick up a Canon 17-85 IS or Sigma 17-70 as a replacement for the kit lens at some point, too. Also have a couple batteries and a couple memory cards. I'm thinking some sort of backpack would be the best thing, but I thought I'd ask for some suggestions.

I use the Tamrac 5371 for my EOS-20D, EF 24-105 F4L IS, EFS 10-22, battery charger, two batteries, two CF cards, lens caps, EOS-20D manuals, and cleaning kit (zip-lock bag with a bulb air blower, Zeiss lens spray, and two lens-safe cloths). With all of this, the bag is pretty full. You might want to consider the 5273 as an alternative. But it's light-weight, a backpack, and small.

And RE: the 17-85 IS vs. Sigma 17-70. Have you considered the Tamron 17-50 F2.8 or Canon 17-55 F2.8IS? Both are getting rave reviews.
