I was looking at the Canon MP780 All-In-One printer, but I cannot find them. The new canon's are chipped, so they are excluded. I heard good things about Brother's but not sure which one is good. Ink cost is an issue, I can refill but would prefer to buy the cheap cartridges.

Look harder. Check the Staples stores in nearby small cities. My nearest store still had some last I knew and they were being clearanced at $180. +sTx - it's amazing that these big box stores don't seem to know the value of what they have. The longer it takes to clone the new tanks, the more folks will be willing to pay for a NIB goldie oldie. They had one in box and another display unit.
. The guy on eBay has shifted a lot of the cost into the shipping to save on eBay fees, but it's still below the normal street price. If you buy top quality clone tanks, you'll be saving at least $25. per full set of tanks. How long until it pays for itself in ink savings.?. At least the eBay guy throws in a USB cable. You could pay nearly $20. for that if bought in a big box store.

I'll be ordering a couple of 10' USB 2 compatibles for $2. each shortly. Moral: don't buy cables in big box stores unless you are desperate - and think twice even then.

Man.. I wish I didn't miss out on the Outpost deal. I knew about it, but it wasn't until now that I needed the printers.

Don't reject refurbished a MP 780's out of hand---quite a few on ebay for about $140 plus shipping----I have a refurbished one generation back MP730 I got dirt cheap and it has not given
me any problems. Having that copy, scan, and fax is really handy.

Nor is a chipped Canon the end of the world---with some added hassle they can be refilled as cheaply as a non-chipped Canon--all you lose is the ability to use third party prefilled
cartridges--and there are some hints that a chip resetter will be available soon.---but that is still iffy.

I almost bought an extra MP780 but poverty stopped it---but you still are dealing with the market when you are looking---but getting a new MP780 at a good price is still possible.
It just takes some creative shopping ---take your time and when the deal comes by---grab it.---the MP 780 would be my best target choice.

Man, I wish they came out with the chip resetter so that I would be able to buy third party cartridges. I would like to just buy the cartridges, but if I refill it I will lose out on my warranty. How are the HP All-In-One's, are they easy to refill?

Yeah, the machine will squeal on you if you refill, but it shouldn't void the warranty unless Canon can prove that it was your ink that did the damage. There are some inks out there specifically formulated for the new canon chipped tanks.. Why not get a 780 one off ebay? There are quite a few there and will pay for itself shortly over a new one. On ebay, search on both MP-780 and MP780.
