This is the card I use. I did notice a nice little increase in speed. Like when I use Kazaa my downloading speed around 5.6-7.0Kbps per second. Compared to my other crappy modem which did like 3.0-4.5Kbps

I have used Conexant (ie USR, GVC, CNet) and Rockwell chipset with greta success (52K+) but keep it mind that it's the phonelines that will determine the speed no matter how good the modem is.

To an extent... some modems like some ISPs more then others. With Earthlink dialup I used to get about 3K/sec with a Rockwell chipset software modem... with a USR Hardware modem I got around 5.5K/sec... quite a different between modems.

Yes different Modems and chipset will connect at various speed depending on the ISP (ie V90 or 56KFlex) but no matter what you have, if the phone lines have static or are crappy, the Modem connected will have lesser performance

Edit= No single phoneline can travel @ 5.5K/sec as the top speed is on analogue is 53.3 kb/s or 5.33 K/sec

Oops, mixing-up your formulas. 53.3 Kb/s @ 8 bits per byte = 6.66 KB/s.
