Need a good 2.1 computer speaker setup, under 250

Any ideas on some good options? I have a Boston Acoustic BA735, but it's 15 years old almost, and the volume on them randomly spikes and drops violently. It's getting annoying.

I just got a Logitech Z623 and I love it. The sound quality is blowing me away for the price, and I am not foreign to good speakers (I have a set of Polk RTi's).

If you can stretch the budget by $50 the following combo is pretty killer.

Refurb Audioengine A2+
Polk PSW10

The A2+ have dual sub outputs and it also comes with a USB DAC built-in for your PC. No PC speaker will come close to the SQ of this combo.

I've had my eye on those very speakers myself, so it's good to get some feedback. I think my Altec Lansing speakers, purchased back in 1995, are finally near their end of life.

hmmm not too bad, that sub is huge though, I couldn't fit my legs under my desk if I went that route

Ohh damn. There isn't another place you can put it? BTW the sub is now $20 cheaper at Amazon which makes it an even better deal. It's front firing so placement is not as finicky.

yeah I guess I could creative with placement, maybe behind my computer if that wouldn't damage the computer

Klipsch Promedia 2.1s are under that price, they were always a well regarded 2.1 comp set. I loved mine when I had them

I can second that, but the ProMedias are somewhat fragile. The DIN connection in the back is pretty fragile, and the all other parts are not too reliable too. I originally paid $160 and now I paid $80 for to replace the left speaker and the sub which died, possibly because I was moving and handled them incorrectly.

Sill, I owned this system for around 6-8 years before I had to invest an additional $80 so I think this thing paid for itself already.

All in all, the system is extremely powerful and loud for a New York apartment. I am very satisfied

Been through three sets of the ProMedias. Failure has almost always been in the amps inside the sub. Notoriously cheap construction...very cheap Chinese caps.

I'd go either with real separates or the Logitech set mentioned above.
