Moderate gaming with a SSD. Prefer IPS and good screen. Good value.

Any suggestions/recs?

Thanks

Whats your budget? What games do you plan to play? You want a small laptop or a large one? We need more info. If you are just wanting to know brand names then I would throw out Sager, Asus, Alienware, and MSI as the better builders for this segment. And if you want something that can play anything expect to pony up some serious money compared to a desktop gamer.

"Good value."

There are no good values in the laptop gaming space. You will pay serious jack and/or make serious compromises for a laptop which can push pixels.

What games do you play, expect to play?
What resolution?
What type of battery life do you need?
Screen size?

I dont personally care for 5400rpm hdd or W8 but those specs is what I would consider minimum for a gaming laptop.

Yeah. Y500. Its great but if you need a blu-ray drive, still go with it. The gt 650m is like 10% slower than the gtx 660m. So both laptops standalone with 1 gpu really wouldn't make much of a difference. The y500 let's you put x2 gt 650m's in it, making gaming performance up to 30% better than the gtx 660m (for games that support sli)

Tell us what games you wish to play.

If you don't mind not getting a brand new computer, refurbished deals from certain sites can get you a better cost/performance return if you're not playing the latest and greatest games.
