Need a gaming headset recommendation

Something in the $50 - $80 range should be plenty don't you think? I had a turtle beach headset and mic but one side quit working. In review of headsets in this price range this seems to be the main problem. I doubt this price range will garner any robust construction.

What have you guys had good luck with? For BF3 and general PC gaming.

I use a creative fatal1ty HS-800 V2. No compaints here, is comfortable to wear all day + night long (you know, when those raid bosses just won't sit down). Mike has good clarity and doesn't cost a packet.
 
I have used Turtle Beach X12's and they worked good when I had them.

The issue you experience is with the cord they get faulty. TB has even acknowledged this and has a replacement procedure.

I did not experience it on the X12's but I DID on X11's.
 
I am a HARDCORE gamer among other things. I game more than anyone else on this forum, period. I used to game PROFESSIONALLY aka for a living. Hands down I can recommend the Plantronics Audio .355's.

You can get them for 20 bucks and they are amazing, period, end of discussion.
 
I don't doubt that in the slightest, however, the hot keys and controls, fit of the headphones, and the battery life when you are using them as wireless was something the lower end ones did not offer.

Also, as someone that games in a fairly noisy home the noise cancelling on them has proved extremely useful.

As was mentioned the wired g35 would give pretty much the same performance for a bit less. You just lose the wireless capability.

I still am not a fan of spending THAT much money on a headset that uses lower end speakers in them. If I am spending a lot of money, I want the money to be spent towards better quality parts, not a name brand.

If you do some reading on the materials and parts different companies use for different parts you will really be shocked. Some companies use the same speakers in low model cheap 20 dollar headphones as they do in 50-100 dollar sets lol.

I will be recommending these for awhile to people.

I wouldn't mind a better feeling pair though, after about 4-6 hours you can notice they are on your head lol. But by that time most people could use a 10 min break anyway lol.
 
I would imagine a bit of the discomfort comes from those being on the ear headphones as opposed to over the ear. I will say that those would certainly be easier to carry around if you do travel with your gaming pc.
