I still have my copy
I made the mistake of selling mine last year...so yesterday I hit a half dozen local software stores hunting for a replacement and luckily managed to grab the last remaining copy. :D

Morrowind is an absolutely awsome game, but it's pretty stressing on your hardware. But then I play with max settings on a Athlon1.65 and Radeon8500 so maybe she can play at low settings.

Oh, and Morrowind is first person, not baldurs gate type of combat/movement, but it's still in the style of a PC RPG like Baldurs Gate. Really really good game. I'm addicted. =D

It is a little strange having a mother who loves video games. She got hooked on Tetris back in the day and hasn't looked back since.. I was difficult getting her onto the PC though.. She just couldn't understand why anyone would sit infront of a small monitor and play a game instead of a TV.. So I had to buy her a nice 19" monitor..

Morrowind is a monster on hardware though. I'm playing it right now and enjoying it immensly. It reminds me of the earlier ultima games with a 3d engine thrown in.

I think it's great that you have a mom who likes to play BG/IWD etc. Heck, I'd like to find a girl who is like that, but closer to my age (40ish)!!! I too have played and enjoyed both the BG and IWD series... I'm in the later stages of IWD2 playing cooperatively online with 3 local friends. Next I'm going to play the NWN sequel - Shadows of Undrentied.

I haven't played PS:Torment, but I've heard alot of people raving about it. The only thing is I've heard a few women complain that the protagonist is a male, and they wish they could play a female protagonist. I can understand that. Never-the-less, they still liked the game.

BTW, if she has a "nice Dell", I'm guessing it could handle NWN ok. NWN would be right up her ally - and even tho it was made with multiplayer in mind, it plays like BG/IWD - that is the story is the same, and you can play through it cooperatively on line or by yourself. You cannot have a party of 6 in single player tho... rather you play as a single character and can have one henchman/henchwoman :) join you for a party of 2. You have limited control over your henchman.

NWN plays pretty well on my PCk, which is a 1.3 ghz using the Radeon 32DDR video card. I'm guessing if your mom's system is near that or better, it will work fine. Heck, I read the box of Unreal II and my system meets the recommende specs for most of the items and it is supposed to be a hardware hog. I think the only thing I don't have which is recommended is 64 mb video memory.

Hey techwanabe, I was thinking about going with NWN but I thought it was a 1 character game, and she doesn't wanna do the whole online gaming thing.. Her system is a nice Dell GX260.. Its a 1.8 P4 but it has onboard video which bites. I tried finding a better VC for it but it will only take a low profile card which only a few cards have been released in..
I installed Planescape for her last night and she played a little while and seemed to like it allot. She did say it was pretty "easy" though which I had heard from other people. I heard its a great games but not as difficult as BG2 and nowhere close to as long.. I guess I will just have to be posting back in here in a few weeks for more suggestions for her. lol

And on a side note my mother does rock.. She is 57 and loves video games and Ozzy Osborne, not the show, his music. His newer stuff at least, no Sabbath.

Planescape does focus more on character development and storyline than on strategic combat. If that is what she is after then she will probably wrap PS:T up pretty quick. The depth in that game is unbelievable though, you could play it 10 times and still not find everything there is to do.

The large morgue that your character begins PST in serves as a kind of extended tutorial for roleplaying newbies. I found that first hour or so of simple tasks to be mind-numbingly tedious, and as an RPG veteran I imagine your mom probably did as well. At least your mom seems to be handling that first stage pretty well...personally I almost quit I was so bored (boy would that have been a mistake). Luckily once you get past that introductory building and out into the city at large things pick up pretty quickly.

I heard its a great games but not as difficult as BG2 and nowhere close to as long
PST is structured much like Morrowind, where most of the game's substance is found in the world as a whole, not just the main quest line. So if you take your time, do all of the side quests, and explore all dialogue options the game is much longer (still shorter than BG2 but significantly longer than IWD) and a more satisfying experience. But if you stick to the main quest only PST can be finished *very* quickly.
