My car is running rough. The diagnostic code reads P1131.
I can't find the code online, though I have heard it indicates a lean mix.
Anyone help?
Thanks

Lean usually means a vacuum leak(gasket/vacuum line) and/or bad o2 sensor. Those are the 2 biggest causes. Since you did not say there are any other codes then the fuel injectors are probable ok. I have seen a lean conditioon when 1 F/I was bad but it also had a misfire for that Cyl as well.

Not sure where you live since you don;t have your profile filled out but if its near N.VA (DC) then you can come by and I can put my scanner on it.

P1131 Lack of Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Switch - Sensor Indicates Lean - Bank No. 1

So looks like it may be a bad O2 sensor on bank1 or air leak on that bank.

I live in Vermont
We tried replacing the O2 sensor, that didn't help(I assume there is only one O2 sensor). I wonder about the vacuum leak. Does the EGR valve work off a vacuum hose (egr came up as one of the possibilities on a search of the internet). Also, what does F1 refer to?
Thanks for your help.

Should be 2 O2 sensors for the front and at least 1 to 2 for the rear. Swap the left from the right and see if the code changes by 1 number.
Do you have the OHC motor or OHV? I am pretty sure the OHC motor has 2 in teh front and not sure about the OHV.

and F/I is Fuel injection and/or Fuel Injector.

I'll have to go pop the hood and let you know about the OHC vs. OHV. My mechanic just said he replaced one sensor. I wonder if it could be the other like you said.
Thanks for the F1 explanation.
