Are all firewall adapters created equal or should I look for a particular brand/chipset? It needs to work on Win8 btw, and be PCIE.

I found this one:
http://uk.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/FireWire/3-1-Internal-Port-PCI-Express-FireWire-Card~PEX13943

It doesn't mention drivers. Admittedly I've never actually used Firewire, I've just noticed that Windows always auto-installs it without asking for drivers.

Windows 7 includes a generic OHCI driver for firewire. Don't know if that's still the case for 8. Its been a while since I last used it.

For the record, I went with a Firewire adapter from Startech (NEC controller). Windows 8 accepted it without any problems, and the PC has handled a digital video camera video import without any hitches.

I was worried because of the amount of stuff on the Internet suggesting that Win8 and Firewire are an iffy combination.
