With XP pro w/ SP2 being so dirt cheap (compairtivly for an os) somthing like 130.00. I am debating just buying a new copy as my current xp home disc actually predates the first service pack by a good while. I bought it only a few months after it was released. This is an upgrade disc of xp home, I had windowsME at the time (may that pitiful OS burn in hell).

So just wondering what everyones opinion would be on picking up an xp pro OEM disc and using that on my new system. My own opinion is that having both the service packs already on there would save me a ton of time getting the system up and running, not to mention any compatibility issues I might have using such an early version of xp. SATA 3.0 drives, 45nm quad, etc etc.

Ideas/thoughts?

If you don't mind spending the cash for something you already have , go for it.
Its not that hard to install xp and do the updates.
Depends on whether you have more cash than time 🙂

Or, for the cost of a blank CD, you could slipstream SP2 into the install files on your current CD and then burn a new disk. XP with SP2 slipstreamed is going to be the same as a new disk that you buy.

Hrm yea I was going to give it a shot with xphome disc, this just cements the decision 🙂

Braz how do i put SP2 into the install routine, never done that.

dont get to inolved, just stick with intergrating SP2 don't worry about hotfixes or drivers and such, keep it simple.

Here's another guide, maybe a bit easier to follow----->LINK

Good Luck!!

Hrm this cd predates the first service pack too, think ill have to cram both in haha.

edit: nm a higher tier service pack precedes the necessity of the other.
