What takes long? The encoding or the ripping?

Ripping speed is detemined by the DVD reader. Mine is capped at 2x.

Another vote for DVDShrink. In terms of usability/features, it is my favorite. Then, just burn with your favorite burning program. (Nero is what I use.)

DVDShrink can be fast. It's obviously faster if you need none or very little compression. If you do the deep analysis it'll take twice as long. With no compression it takes around 15 minutes or less. With deep analysis it takes around 40-50 minutes.
You DVD ripping speed and CPU play a big factor.

Shrink times vary based on hardware, but 20-40 min is reasonable. 20 for a 3500+ and 40 for a 2000+ from personal experience. You dont always need decryptor to do it btw. Only needed a few times for me. That would add alot of time if you needed it everytime...

Shrink times also vary with the DVD. Slowest backup times occur with episodic TV show DVDs (cheers, star trek, sopranos etc.) that have +3 hours of video on each DVD. In those cases, even encoding only (without analyze and aec) might take 30 minutes.

On the other hand, if you do the time, you get more quality. DVDs copied with shrink are pretty much identical in image quality to the original, even if you're coding at 60% range.
