NEED a dishwasher....

dxkj

Lifer
I would really rather have an in-counter one, but there isnt a ton of room for it, and definitely no room right next to the sink.

We could get a mobile one, but that would take up room on the side where the table IS

The only other option I could think of is moving the fridge elsewhere, and putting one in there..

Or maybe getting rid of the table and building an island in the center of the kitchen.

Bleh, my options don't look great.

And in order to respond to why we NEED a dishwasher. My wife goes to grad school (1hr drive away) where she also works 20 hours a week, so 4 days a week she is gone 12 hours a day, and the other days she is drowning in papers/homework/testing kids.

I work 1.5 hour drive away in the opposite direction and I stay there 3 nights a week, and when I get home I have a ton of other projects to work on around the house, as well as keeping up the pool (obviously not in the winter, and we may get rid of it), and working on some side coding I do....

so needless to say, a dishwasher would be a nice addition. Any advice on options/feasibility, etc?

possibly to the left of the stove, but you'd have to run water lines and if you are on a slab, it's not worth it.

he is, maybe he needs to divorce this one and get one that doesn't leave the kitchen.

Nope, thats the basement exposed beams ceiling so as simple as drilling two holes. and threading.

So, why not left of the stove? It's non-optimal, but doable. Alternatively, you could add counterspace under where the phone is...

Here's what I would do. Board up that door, move the refridge to the right up against the wall. extend the counter over to the refridge from the sink. also you'll need to take the cabinets that are above the refridge and move them to the right above the new location for the refridge. fill in the space the the old cabinet takes with cabinets that are the same size up and down as the cabinets on the left of the sink. You can then put the dishwasher where the refridge was and tap off the water and drain pipes below the sink. What kind of exterior is on the outside of the house?

My original plan was to do that and to put some moveable cabinetry over there, but I wasnt sure if being that distance from the sink was doable.

Also to note is that we have low water pressure. If we can make sure no two things are drawing water at a time we should be ok, but as much as I can think about dishwashers, they just wait until they are full before proceeding anyway dont they?

Thanks for the input guys.

That door leads to the mudroom which leads to the deck, which leads to the back yard walk out to the garage... cant really board that up 😉

No, no no,no no, no....

You need to cut out the back of the fridge and make it a walk through fridge.

problem solved!

😎

They have counter-top models Link and 18" portable ones Link. Can you put the garbage under the sink in one of these and put an 18" dishwasher where the garbage can is?

You could either move the sink to where the stove is, move the stove to where the sink is, and then place that diskwasher to the left of the current stove location. That's a lot of work, however. I suggest this because you REALLY don't want to have to walk back and forth to a dishwasher that is a mile from the sink. It will be a PITA and will leave lots of water on the floor.

Alternately, go get a portable dishwasher. But, like you said, you will lose some room somewhere.

Is that the entire kitchen? No space to the left of the sink pic? It really needs to be re-laid out.

Paper plates.

The dishwasher doesn't have to be right next to the sink - and you don't need to do anything fancy with the water/drain lines.. you can just run them through the inside of the cabinets. But it just doesn't look like you have a lot of room to deal with.

They do make countertop models that apparently work okay. They hook right up to the faucet and drain into your sink. That may be your best short term solution. Anything else is going to involve a good bit of time/money which it sounds like you're trying to conserve...

yes more to the left of the stove. a good amount of counterspace/cabinets.

there are the 2 lower doors, then another one to the left, and then another double door cabinet, so we wouldnt but really hurting if we had to lose some of that.

Cut a hole in the back of the fridge, then you'll have a walk through fridge and can still use the door.

Edit: Dammit...So stole my joke.

Hrm, Im a big guy though. If I could fit through my fridge with all of the groceries and my backpack, and other stuff there would be no room for food... in fact because half of it is a freezer i doubt I could fit at all. And then what about the summer?!?
