most remote will be a hassle as a makeshift mouse. You'll want to find one with a trackball in it rather then arrow buttons. But those will be more exspencive. You also need to consider if you want an R/F or IR remote.
Now the only remote i've ever used is an ATI Remote wonder. Not sure they make them anymore. Now days all remotes are either part of a video capture or TV conversion deal or they are centered around MCE. So controlling mouse movement isn't an option or is very clumsy.
