Need a decent laptop.....

I'm currently in the market for a laptop for my parents. They just need some decent laptop that goes for under a grand. Since, they're just going to use it mostly for office programs, and the internet. Something wwith a decent harddrive space would be nice and at least 512mb of ram. For under a $1000

I'm not up to date on laptops.
What processors would you guys recommend? As well as harddrives, and the other components?
 
You should probably have posted this in the sff/notebook forum... check dell, hp, etc for good deals, any of the higher end mfgs will be expensive and geared toward gaming or ultraportability. Core duo processors are probably the best, followed by turion X2. Core 2 Duo merom mobile processors should be coming out early next year? Or late this year? If they're only web surfing and stuff, they don't need a 7200rpm hdd or 667mhz ram (common component upgrades) and could get by with integrated gfx. How big of a screen do they want? You can get a 17" screen for <$1000 no problem.
