So I've been out of the tech loop for some time and now I'm looking to setup a new computer (running an amd 1ghz currently). I have a few main needs with it.
1) Play Lord of the Rings: Online (tech reqs can be found here http://lotro.turbine.com/index.php?page_id=20&pagebuilder[module]=faq&pagebuilder[display_item]=18#generalgameinformation14 ) I'd like to make sure it runs really smooth with high details. This obviously has a lot to do with the video card, but as I say below I'm only looking for the core system at the moment. The video card needs to wait since it just doesn't fit into the budget right now.
2) Use it for audio recording - The noise it makes must be minimal, I'll be using very sensitive microphones around it and don't want to pick up the noise AND it needs firewire, ideally with a TI chipset
3) Use it as a media center - I'd like 2 hard drives. A system drive, and a media drive.
I'd like to keep it under $500 which would NOT include the video card or the monitor, as this will have to be a purchase I make later due to my budget.
I'm open to overclocking as from what I can tell with stable parts its pretty easy to do. Also, I don't necessarily need to build this myself; I'm just looking for a solid system for a good deal.
I've read through a few posts, reviews, etc and feel ready to get some specific feedback for what I'm looking for. Any help's appreciated!
