Hello, starting this Sunday, I will be supporting approximately 600 internet connections with 300 of them being wireless. I have very minimal experience with wireless. Floors 4-7 in this dorm building are wireless and they have access points set up.

The school currently provides the wireless networks cards needed. They use 3 different brands with one being 3 com. I have already been informed that the 3 com cards are horrible and cause most of the problems. Anyone have any knowledge on the subject?

Thanks for anything anyone can provide,

Jeff

Been involved on many jobs that big and bigger but I am not sure what your asking. Only about 3com cards? Don't have any experience with them. If you know their a problem start switching them out with either Proxim or Cisco cards, assuming this is 802.11b. Beyond that, if you have a question about something I'll be happy to give it a shot. It'll be hard to make any real judgements without doing a site survey though. Might get you a laptop (the smaller the better) and a decent client utility to site survey this area your going to support. Find dead zones, weak coverage areas, etc...
