Need a CPU Socket 478 HSF recommendation

I recently overclocked my CPU and I was thinking of maybe getting a better HSF. In addition to lower the CPU temperature, I also want it to be quiet. What are your recommendations for a good HSF suiting my needs?

Thanks.

Are you using the stock cooler now? I would suggest the Zalman CNPS7000 and CNPS7700 series. The Thermalright XP-90 and XP-120 are also good paired with a Panaflo fan. If you can wait, the Zalman Zalman CNPS9500 looks promising.

Yeah, I'm using stock now. My CPU temp hovers around 125-130 degrees F most of the time. It gets up to 140's under heavy load. I overclocked my P4 2.4C to 3.0Ghz.

Yeah, I think the Zalman CNPS7700 with Arctic Silver 5 is going to be the best for you. It's quiet and is also a great cooler.

Get the 7000 version of the zalman version they are very excellent quality and very quiet quiet coolers. They come with backplates and everything u need, (also thermal paste) but I would suggest getting some arctic silver 5 or arctic silver ceramique.

I'm looking at the Thermalright XP-90 pictures on Newegg. I suppose I have to add in the fan myself. Where does it go?
Top of the heatsink 😉

Part of the "How To" guide (if you wanna call it that) that comes with the XP-90 describes where & how to install a fan onto it.

UNDER 40 bucks.

with the fan and included shipping costs it will be over 40 dollars.
It is under $40.

XP-90 ($24.95) with add on fan option below (LB1X discounted to $8 when combined with XP-90) = $32.95 + $6.31 (UPS Ground to Machesney Park, IL) = Grand Total of $39.26.

Good deal then

SVC.com has the XP-90 with a fan for $31.79. I believe they are willing to ship Priority Mail, which means $4 shipping.
