Need a consensus on ACPI...YES/NO

I have been having a few unexplained problems with IRQ's...standby mode. Abit KA7 board with AMD 800. How many people are using the ACPI function from BIOS setup? Any problems? I have a Sound Blaster Live and a Quantum 3D (Voodoo Banchee) Video card and a Maxtech 56k modem. I'm not sure that all these cards support ACPI.

I haven't been able to update my SY6BA+IV's BIOS to take full advantage of ACPI. 🙁 I use ACPI on my WIN2K/98SE box at work without any noticeable problems. They only think I see it offering is hibernate/complete standby.

ACPI depends on the operating system.
Windows NT, 95, 98, 98SE - probably not.
Windows 2000 and ME - sure, works pretty well.

Running ACPI on WIN2K and WIN98 systems prevents you from manually configuring IRQ's. Most new cards should support the ACPI standard, so power management should not be an issue. My recommendation, if you have IRQ's problems, disable ACPI. Otherwise, use ACPI to have maximum power management.

aha...I think I may have solved my problem...Ifinally did a little investigating around in cmos and found the option to change the IRQ asignments to specific PCI slots. I finally got my modem on 9 and my two USB bus's on 12. Life is good. I know that the tech info sites say they should share ok...but...I was having way too many unexplained lockups. It was typical of a mouse driver or IRQ conflict. I have an Intellimouse Optical USB version and it was driving me crazy. But I think it is fixed now. Thanks🙂 🙂
