I am currently running the following:
TT Tsunami w/3 stock fans (they take about 4.5W each)
P4 2.53
ATI AIW Radeon 9800 (just upgraded from a AIW Rad 8500)
SB Live 5.1 Platinum
WD JB800 80GB EIDE Hard Drive
DVD Drive
Burner
Coolermaster Aerogate III fan controller
Gigabyte 8PE Pro (using standard onboard periferals)
I had run this system previously with a enermax 300W without incident. However, the video card I just got yesturday from the manufacturer as a replacement. As a precaution, I went out and bought a Enermax Noisetaker 420W to accomodate the power needs of the vid card -- 420W, I thought, is plenty for this system, but I wanted to make sure I had enough room for futureproofing as well. I mean if I had bought a large watt PSU to begin with, I wouldn't have needed to buy another one now, would I?
However, after looking around this site, I am wondering whether 420 is enough future proofing. I am thinking by this time next year, I am probably going to want to get at least a 3.4 GHZ system with 775 pins, a SATA or SATA II drive...basically the mid range technology that can be expected at that time -- which translates into the high-end range of technology today.
I am thinking that maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to exchange it for a 485W Enermax PSU? Am I getting carried away and just stick with the 420 PSU I have?
