Amorous Swedes to Get Emergency Condom Deliveries

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - A Swedish aid organization will roll out a new line of defense to the country's emergency services next week -- the condom ambulance.

From Friday, June 4, amorous couples can call the telephone number 696969 and a white van featuring a large red condom with wings as a logo will deliver them a packet of 10 prophylactics.

"We need to increase the usage of condoms," said Carl Osvald, marketing manager for the Swedish Organization for Sex Education, the non-governmental organization behind the initiative. "It is 50 percent about pregnancy and 50 percent about sexually transmitted diseases."

The ambulances will operate in Stockholm and the southern cities of Malmo and Gothenberg. The service, aimed at young people, will run until June 25 and be available between four in the afternoon and nine at night.

A packet of 10 condoms will cost 50 crowns ($6.72), less than they cost on average in the shops.

The incidence of sexually transmitted disease is increasing rapidly in Sweden and not enough young people use condoms, Osvald said.

"We need to change attitudes to condoms," he said. "If we need to get out in to the bedrooms to make things better we will do it."

Right, so when some kids are trying to sneak some sex while the parents are in the other room, they're going to call a condom-mobile. I can tell a lot of thought was put into this.

Thats what I was thinking. Hold on, I have to call the condom mobile before we can have sex.:disgust:

At least it's an idea, you got a better one that haven't been tried yet?

The number of people who contract all STD's is increasing in every nation of the world, at least they are trying to do something.

And how many kiddies are sneaking sex with their parents in the other room? Yeah, right.

The amount of adults having sex without protection is the REAL problem, kids these days usually know better.

What's cheaper, socialized medicine paying for delivery of a baby and the welfare system having to pick up the tab for the unwanted kid (or paying for an abortion), or an idle ambulance running a condom to the house to avoid the pregnancy altogether?

Right, so you have never been in a situation where you wanted to have sex, and the ONLY thing missing was the woman.
I can tell a lot of thought, and little experience was put into this post.

Yea, STOP MAKING SEX THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN LIFE and encourage kids to wait.

We're treating STDs as if it's some freak of nature epidemic, it's a plague oh no! If an adult gets an std because they didn't wear a condom, then that is their fault and their problem. Unless it's HIV, they're not going to die from it.

We haven't been around for thousands of years as the human race and all of a sudden have a problem.

1. If they're too embarassed to pick some up at the store, they're not going to call a van with a flashy red condom logo on it to drive up to their house
2. If they don't have the money to buy the condoms at the store, they're not going to have the money to buy them from the mobile service
3. If they're getting heavy into it, ripping off clothes and fooling around, they're not going to stop "to make a call"
4. Like I said before if these are teenagers that don't want to be caught, a van with a flashy logo is not going to work
5. The only people that will try and use this service are those that already buy condoms and either want slightly cheaper priced condoms are think it's funny to get a visit

You want a solution? Make it proactive and anonymous. Send 2 condoms to every household, with an order form, bulk prepaid (pay by delivery). Make them inexpensive to buy, rounded to the dollar so they can send cash. Send out the initial condoms a month before the peak times when conception of babies out of wedlock typically occur.

I agree with all 5 points you made, but I just don't see people ordering condoms being any more effective. People can already order condoms if they want to get them mailed. No one is going to wait around for three days for thier sipment to show up before having sex. Even in this country where you can get condoms anonymously for free (stop by any planned parenthood and ask for some condoms - you'll get about 50 of them for no charge), people still don't get them.

You can die from numerous STD's if they go untreated, perhaps you should read up before you spout off?

The problem is increasing, there is a reason for that, and it is not because sex is the most important thing in life, it is because people are no longer dependant on eachother and it's ok to have sex with a perfect stranger if you like.

Problem is when a condom isn't used, sure, it is their fault when they contract an STD, but when their girlfriend, wife, boyfriend or husband who know nothing about that gets it too, is that their fault?

It is a problem, and the problem is spreading, let's try to do something to reduce the problem?

Doesn't leave much room for thought, hehe...

Thing is that that is not a Swedish phone number though, at least two digits are missing.

Well, maybe it is like 911. That works here, even though 4 digits are missing.

Mother Nature is going to take care of that...weed out the morons.
