It's been a while since I've been up on PC hardware but I remember this was the place where all the experts were, so I'm looking for advice.
My home PC is on the fritz. Random hard shutdowns, drives suddenly becoming "disconnected", stuff like that. I've switched out the cheap stuff like cables and stuff to no avail. Not interested in a major overhaul as it's several years old.
So, I'm looking to spend about $300 on a new desktop PC. Nothing hardcore. Web browsing, video (no editing), photo, no games newer than UT2004. I just want to get the most bang for my $300 buck so that it'll last us 2 or 3 years.
So far, the most PC I can find for $300 is from the Dell outlet. They are refurbished, but they do have a 1 year hardware warranty (and at this point, a new PC failing within the 1 year mark is pretty back luck).
Any other suggestions before I pull the trigger? I'm hoping to get something soon before this old PC calls it quits.
