Need a cheap LCD

I am building a new box, and got a bit carried away with some of the components (Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe NF4, Athlon 64 3000+, 1GB of Geil RAM, Gigabyte 6600GT (only one, and I probably won't add another one later)).

As a result, I really need to cut corners on the monitor. The system will be used for surfing and word processing, so clear text is important. Gaming may happen, but it is not important for this box.

I see the occasional 17" LCD for $160 or so. If I buy one, will I regret it?

How cheaply can I get 16ns response times, DVI, and a pivoting stand? Do I really need these things?

Thanks.

Don't buy a 17" LCD. I bought the cheapest 19" LCD from NewEgg for work, and the monitor is, frankly, pretty awesome. It's this one here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824168005

It had no dead pixels, and once the color temperature was set to the middle setting, the colors are nice and vivid. It definately is nicer using the DVI cable, which is included. It was $299 when I bought it, so $209 after rebate. Its now $219 AR. I've gotten all my rebates for things purchased from NewEgg.

This LCD is next to an expensive Samsung 19" LCD, and to my eye looks even better than the Samsung. The Samsung is using a VGA connection, though.

I don't think you need a pivoting stand. You definately want DVI, and lower than 16 ms response times, if possible.

Nice find kmmatney, but this is not the Hot Deals forum. :) Seriously though, he is right: "You definately want DVI, and lower than 16 ms response times, if possible."

My ImageQuest L90D has a pivoting stand, and it comes in handy once in a while. Much more money though.

Your monitor seems to be $239 right now, as the $90 rebate expired yesterday. Still looks mighty nice though.
