Hey all, Maybe you can help me out. I am looking for a CDMA compatible phone for my wife. She is currently with Telus in MB, and her current handset is a Samsung A523. Reason for wanting to stick with a older phone is that she is on this antiquated plan and only pays ~20$ a month for voice and text service. Telus did just upgrade to HSPA however there is no coverage outside of winnipeg. Are there any good "non" smartphones that you can think of that would be compatible on the network? The A523 is on its last legs as the backlight is going on the display, and Telus has a very sub par selection of non smartphones.

any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks

Sprint and Verizon use CDMA.

It's kind of like, you can't (officially) use Sprint phones on Verizon and vice-versa. Most likely he'll have to buy a Telus phone. You can take Sprint/Verizon phones and illegally(?) flash them to other carriers (like MetroPCS/Cricket). Can you do the same to Telus? I doubt it...

P.S. @OP check howardforums.com

I believe Telus had the Motorola e815, IMHO this is probably the best overall cell phone I've ever owned. It's not new, but you can still find a lot that are in basically new condition. I would put it well ahead of any new(er) non smart phone. It might have been called the v710 up there.
