you have an imperfect legal system by nature. a group of your peers are
supposedly selected for their unbias regard for the case and told to
judge you on the facts. a trial is basically a contest in gamesmanship
between two prejudiced combatants: the prosecutor who represents the
people versus the defense attorney who must zealously defend his client.
they're fighting for the 'hearts' of the jury. what's worse, within modern
courtroom proceedings (with the most infamous example being the oj simpson
case) defense attorneys actually hire professional screeners to comb through
the legion of flakes and do-gooders for the one juror who exhibits tendencies
they feel are exploitable. justice can be bought, and death can be visited on
the poor sap who lacks the money to buy those screeners, double breasted
ambulance chasers, and forensic eggheads to vouch for the sanctity of your
soul. go figure.

single most overused topic in high school.

but thats a good thing, because www.schoolsucks.com is LOADED with examples.

Don't copy that stuff though, half of it is damn near infantile scrawlings, but you may get a good line or idea out of 'em.

hows this for a first paragraph, i need atleat 3 facts, a hook , and a thesis,
how is this for it:

What jurisdiction does the law have over ones life? The United States was partly founded on John Locke?s theory of ?Natural Rights?, the right to life, liberty, and property. The death penalty also known as capital punishment is a form of punishment where the criminal is put to death because of his actions of murder. This denial of life called capital punishment is contradictory to what the United States of America was founded on. In the United States, the death penalty is currently authorized in five ways in the majority of the 50 states. Over the years with the death penalty active, there hasn?t been a substantial decrease in the national murder rate. The Death Penalty is immoral and should be banned because it is cruel and unusual, it does not deter crime, and it is unjust as a punishment.

I want so badly to argure pro. Course it's moot since you have said that you are pro. I'd be protesting the assignment by creating a completely assinine essay about how even serial killers have a warm fuzzy side and that the reason they kill people is because they weren't hugged as children. You may actually be able to pull off some subtle satire if your teacher is a few fries short of a Happy Meal. Other than that your start looks good. (Well as good as any argument for against capitol punishment can.)
