changing out a system and they currently have two 8800GT's (512mb each) in sli, the system they are getting will only have a single pci-e slot in it, what card would be needed to have the same and/or better performance? Need both amd and nvidia equivalents of same performance for a single card.

no $$ amount set yet, thats why I am asking what would the equivalent single card be to two 8800GT's in SLI. I know alot of cards are better than the pair, but what equals them in performance so that I know where to the bottom is and go up from there.

PSU isnt an issue
resolution: various different ones
games: yes, but a vast variety

i know some cards play better with certain games, just looking for general overall performance equivalents

I'd say an equivalent to 8800GT SLI would be a GTX460 / HD6850 area. But it still roughly depends on what your willing to spend. There are other variables/deals that could possibly get you even more performance than that, if you had a set price.

What are your specs ? This is something most users is going to ask you. And what is the "highest" resolution you are able to play at ?

highest resolution is 1920x1080. old system had 6gb ram ddr2, new system 8gb ddr3. processor was a q6600, new processor 1075T

price isnt an issue, willing to spend what it takes to equal the performance, and then work from there on if he wants better performance or not.

If price isn't an issue, go with HD6970/GTX570. But if you plan on playing at 1080, I wouldn't go any lower than a 560Ti / HD6870 which is a lot faster than 8800GT SLI.

Although if you want "only" 8800GT SLI performance, you can probably get that for barely over $100.

Have you bought the 1075T yet ? If not, why not wait a little less than two months and see what BD does ?

You can basically start at the GTX 460 and HD 6850. Both should be faster than 8800GT SLI, and you can work your way up if you want even more performance.

Equal performance is hard to estimate because new cards are DX11 while the 8800GT is DX10, SLI scaling varies more than single card performance, and driver optimizations have probably stopped for the 8800GT but continue for the new cards.

From a pure capability standpoint, a 260GTX should do it.

But because SLI doesn't scale 100% you will likely see better preformance from any of 260GTX/GTX460/GTX465 or 4870/6850/5830/4890 than you would see from your SLI setup.

A 6870 would be a small step up, and they're dipping down into the mid 150s after rebate quite often now.

GTX 260's arn't sold anymore. You want something with DX 11 anyway. I recommend the GTX 560 Ti as the minimum for 1080p. To be confortable at that resolution I would recommend the GTX 570 Ti. The 6950 is good also but I like Nivdia cards because Nivdia likes to pour money in the way its ment to be played and that makes Nvidia cards preform well artifically against the AMD cards.
