I need a new card for a PIII, 1.2 GHz, 512 MB PC133 SDRAM, Asus TUV4X motherboard...

The computer is used in a recording studio and I require a card with dual display and quality 2D plus semi-decent 3D rendering (for that ever important play time with things going boom in the M-Audio powered studio monitors!).

Now I know that Ti4200's and Radeon 9500's and above are wasted in my set-up here.. what's my best bet?

Radeon 9100/8500 or even GF4 MX440?

Thanks!

For 2D quality and dual monitor support, you can't beat Matrox. A G550 would serve you well. Second choice for 2D would be ATI .... a Radeon 8500/9100 is an excellent choice. I'd go for the GeF3 as a third choice (the 2D quality on my GeF2 wasn't exactly up to par, although I hear the GF3s were better).

Thanks for all your input. I'm considering all your recommendations. In Canada, it seems, GF3's are extremely hard to come by. Does anybody have or know much about an ATI Radeon 8500LE? Is it a true dual display card? On ATI's website it says the card supports dual display but makes no mention of Hydravision, and I've read elsewhere that it isn't dual display (other than computer monitor + TV out).
I also like the Sapphire Radeon 9100, but I'm reading their may be some "quality issues" with the card (64 rather than 128bit memory bus).
