Need a car recommendation

Hey guys,

By the end of the summer, I need to buy a new car. Right now, I have a 2001 VW Jetta, and like it a lot. I had every intention of buying another Jetta (2004 model); however, I thought I should investigate some other cars before making my purchase.

So far, I have looked at the new Altima, Accord, Civic, and Camry, but I do not know much about each of these models. Some of the features I would like (but are not necessarily required) are a v-6, alloy wheels, and sunroof.

Can anyone make any recommendations, either from the few I have listed, or some other cars in the same price range?

Edit: I forgot to mention that I do want a four door sedan, and my price range is about $22,000 - $26,000.

I did mention that I wanted a car in the same class as the few I mentioned; however, to be more specific, my range is about $20,000 - $26,000.
 
In that price Range, have you looked at the Acura TSX - it has a high HP 4cly, it's a great engine.

Well if you've already looked at these models, why do you need our help? Edmunds.com lets you compare each one. And all the cars you listed come with the features you want. Why don't you just test drive all of them?

Personally, those would be my choices along with a used Supra

I couldn't find any websites like the Edmunds site you mentioned. When I do a search for "car reviews" on google, I get a bunch of fake spam sites. I will check that one out.

Also, being 19, I cannot test drive most of the cars around here (you have to be 21).

I'd prefer new, but that's not a strict requirement.
 
For that pricerange, get a real car. You can get a base Crown Vic for that. v8, rwd, full frame, great resale value, and decent mileage (25mpg on hwy). They are pretty rugged cars from my experience.

If they're sport models they do...chrome wheels, blacked out trim, etc. I think they're hot, but then again I'm a 19 year old male.

I also drive a 2004 Accord LX and LOVE it. 🙂

Its the man, not the machine that gets the chicks. Besides, all that room in the backseat can be quite useful if you know how to ummm...use it. 😉
 
oops, the Civic can't be had in V6 form, my bad. In terms of test driving - bring your father/mother along with you. If the dealer still refuses to play oddball tell them you'll take your business elsewhere.

Are all decent places to start from. I looked at all those cars except the Civic b/c I hate small cars, and the Accord was the winner hands down. (I drive an 04) Unfortunately, the sedan in V6 form can't be had in a stick, and the handling is a little crappy needless to say, (fixable when you replace the rear sway with a 20mm bar) but it's the best overall car in it's class imo, depending on what you're looking for. It's not as sporty in stock form as probably the Altima or the Mazda 6, but on the whole it's a much better car IMO.

Thanks a bunch for the info. I will check out those sites too.

(And yes, the Civic is far below the other cars, IMO).
 
My choices would be:

Lightly used previous generation Maxima (not a fan of the new ones)
Lightly used previous generation Acura TL-S
Previously owned BMW 330i

For new, wait for the new Subaru Legacy to come out in the "GT" trim.
 
If you can afford it, I'd stick with a Jetta, but with the R32(?) engine....Personally, I prefer a van such as the Toyota Sienna or the new Nissan Quest (which will soon replace my 1997 Dodge Grand caravan). I prefer comfort over speed and it doesn't get any more comfy than a captain's chair....Of course, I've prepped the wife's 95 Contour to SVT specs and I also own a 1991 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo prepped to HKS Stage 4.
 
For $26K, you could upgrade to a Passat with a 1.8T engine. I got to play with a 2004 model as a loaner car, and it was a blast to drive.
