need a car alarm/remote start

i have a honda and i heard the keys have this special thing in it that immobilizers the car.
if i get this "bypass" will i lose the immobilizer feature?

any recommendations on a alarm/remote start unit?

also, if i get it, will my current key fob be replaced by that unit or will ihave 2 fobs on my keychain now?

I had the same thing in my 2000 Avalon. The immobilizer is basically a chip in your key that tells the car it's ok to start the engine. Since your key won't be near the car when you install a remote starter, the "bypass" will fool the car into thinking the chip is giving the OK signal to start the car. I think there are two kinds of bypass modules. The one I used was a module that had a space for you to put in a spare key with an antenna. The antenna goes around the ignition. When the remote start sequence starts, the module sends the chip signal from the spare key to the ignition and then it'll start. Make sure the key is uncut or the key part is broken off! I think there's another kind that learns your chip and emulates it that way.

Depending on the brand/model you get, you may or may not have another fob. The one I had I could program the car to start with two lock signals from my original fob.

Oh cool, so with this immobilizer, does it make the car basically theft proof other than the crooks towing it away?

And can I ask which alarm/starter you have?
