Hi all,

A little backround:

My partner and I sold on ebay for 3 years. We then decided to start a website. We hired a guy who was awful. It took over a year with ridiculous costs and so many problems that that thestress level between me and my partner became so high we stopped talking to each other.

Just recently we reconciled. (It was one phone call and the 2 of us realized we had been best friends for 15 years so we were both idiots to let this get in the way).

The website is almost done. Should be finished in the next 2 weeks.

We have over 7,500 email addresses from customers that have bought from us on Ebay. (We know many will not be good anymore).

We would like to send to our past customers a basic email letting them know that we are back in business and let them know about the website.

The file is in the back office of our website. We just want a programs to hook up to and send the email.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks, Leigh

I wouldn't really call that spam if it's just a one time thing...Well, I guess it meets the def, but at lot of respectable businesses do the same thing.

One time spam is still spam.

Yes, but it's a force that can be used for good as well!!

The ends justify the means?

I believe in a strict "opt in" policy. Any commercial email that is unsolicited is spam, IMO.

As far as a solution though, I guess setting up a script to mail each of the addresses wouldn't be too tough in a *nix. Mailing list software could also be used (majordomo, etc). They might take a little extra work to setup though, since people aren't subscribing. But may be worthwhile in the future.

As long as it's only once I wouldn't call it spam. Especially if it's a notification telling them you are back in business.

I'd say not spam, becuase its a notification to previous customers, and not a "come look & buy" to people who have never purchased from them.

i use phplist.
http://tincan.co.uk/phplist
you can import your existing list to phplist
it will add a unsubscribe link to the bottom of every email, in case anyone doesn't want to recieve any more messages.
it's overkill for a one time thing, but this way you can send out a monthly newsletter to your customers if they wish.
