Need a Brutal RTS Game

I need a hand from the gamer element of ATOT here. Essentially my roomate is driving me nuts with his obession with C&C:Generals:Zero Hour. And it's not that he's trying to beat it or anything; he's done that multiple times on Hard. And it's not that he's trying to get better scores or something. He can often get kills of 200+ to zero on Hard. (Best score, 1000+ to zero and will be posted upon request) Suffice it to say, that game is his bitch.

Yet despite this fact he still has a fanatical obsession with playing it. Why? Frankly, I don't know. But he says it's the only one that gives him a challenge. He mastered Starcraft, the Red Alert series (both original and sequel, and expansions), and War Craft 3... well, that's just not even a challenge. While he has played the Civ games in the past and enjoyed them, he's looking for something with a quicker pace.

So, I am appealing to you on his behalf (he's a wimp on the net at times) for some suggestions that will offer a challenging RTS game that dosen't have an AI that just cheats its way to victory all the time. Age isn't a huge issue, though more modern games are appreciated.

Thanx for any help given.

No doubt. Let him get pwned by some 12 year old boy and he'll get a bit humbler.

Rise of Nations...when each side gets "artificial intelligence" it's just a conveyor belt of troops to the front line.

Nobody can master starcraft. Nobody. You can get godly at it, but one game you'll just get nailed because the other guy goes the opposite.

God damn, I can beat 7 comps on my own in a non-money map but I can barely take 2 decent players at once. Tell him to go online and someone will own him.

Rise of Nations...don't think I've played an RTS with as much macromanagement and the like.

Ground Control. You dont get to make units. What you start with is what you get.

Now, if you REALLY wanna open up the whip ass on him. East Front / West Front. I assure you, with 100% accuracy, he WILL NOT WIN if he plays as the Germans.

im sorry but you seem like you're easily impressed. I bet he can't beat a single warcraft expert found at www.replays.net. (lvl 30-40 players)

Obviously rise of nations. It shouldn't get to the point where you get AI though. Do what I do and end the game at Enlightenment, I thini it's the coolest age :)

Definately Homeworld 2... and don't let him patch it, they made the game easier with the patches.

Have him give Sudden Strike 2 a try. That game gives you truely limited resources and you have unit overload. Also, I agree about RoN.

I seriously doubt he is any good at starcraft if he only plays singleplayer. Being godly at singleplayer is like learning how to crawl, when everyone online is sprinting.

East Front > HW2

They're 2 completely different games.

True. Its not RTS, but rather turn based. However, it is by and far the hardest strategy based game I have ever played. Of course, when your destined to lose no matter HOW good you do.....
Max was also a very tough game if you did the scenario's, however free play was a cake walk.
