Need a book recommendation

Since I ride the train to work now I have time to read more. So I'm looking for something good to read on the train on the way to work. I like thrillers, as well as some sci/fi stuff. Thrillers with a supernatural or sci/fi element to them are a big plus. A few books I've read lately that I've liked:

"Relic" Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child
"Brimstone" Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child
"March To The Sea", David Weber, John Ringo
"March Upcountry", David Weber, John Ringo (tried March to the stars but couldn't get into it anymore)

Also liked the Da Vinci Code, and Snow Crash. Got a quarter through Cryptonomicon, but didn't like it.

 
The Reality Dysfunction (and the rest of the books in the trilogy), by Peter F. Hamilton. Also, Pandora's Star, by the same author.
 
Drake & Stirling "The General" series (book 1 is The Forge)
Drake's Hammer's Slammers short stories

if you like ebooks, baen.com has a bunch of Drake and Weber books as free downloads, often book 1 of a series to get you hooked.

YES! That is my favorite Arthur C. Clarke novel, Childhood's End a very close second.

If you havn't read it, check out "Hyperion" by Dan Simmons ... fantastic & very original sci-fi, you won't be able to put it down.
 
Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach

It is not the genre you are looking for, but highly recommended anywhom. 🙂
 
Currently reading Jonathon Strange & Mr Norrel. It's damn good but I'm not sure it's exactly what you are looking for.
 
usually nothing special but "where the red fern grows" is an excellent book. or i suggest reading "catch 22", a superb book.
 
Try the "A Hymn before battle" series by John Ringo, pretty good stuff.

Also 1632 by Eric Flint is a good read.

Prey by Michael Crichton. Just finished reading it, and I like it a lot.

Any of Isaac Asimov's short story compilations are also excellent, as you can get quality reading and closure before you get to the office, depending on how quickly you read.

You know I actually bought that after I read Da Vinci Code. After reading the first few chapters I couldn't get over how similar the storyline was, so I stopped reading it. It might be good now that it's been a couple of years since I've read the Da Vinci Code though.

Does the plot of Angels and Demons start to change a bit after the first few chapters? because the beginning is exactly like the Da Vinci Code.
