Anybody have a reccomendation for a book that they have read and enjoyed a bunch? I enjoy books along the likes of 1984, catcher in the rye, gatsby etc. I would have to say my favorite book as of now is 1984. Anyone have somethin?

If you haven't read Fahrenheit 451, you'd probably like that. I also enjoyed One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, the Martian Chronicles, Ethan Frome, Great Expectations (one of my favorites), All Quiet on the Western Front, The Princess Bride, and Cat's Cradle to name a few. Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde is also a good read, and short to boot.

Also, right up there with Great Expectations, would be just about anything by Douglas Adams.

Brave New World was similar to 198(broken key :( ), but more futuristic and annoying.

A Wizard Of Earthsea or The Left Hand Of Darkness by Ursula K. LeGuin

The Iron Dragon's Daughter by Michael Swanwick

The Jungle by Upton Sinclair

Or just look up 100 greatest books.

I had six hours to read the book and write a 10 page paper on it.

In retrospect, I did not like the book very much.

I just started reading Sarah Vowell's "Assassination Vacation" today. Interesting and VERY funny history book about the first three U.S. presidential assassinations. Had to keep myself from laughing out-loud many times.

Orgy Porgy Orgy Porgy!

Also, you might be interested in "The Gods Themselves" or "Nightfall" by Issac Asimov

Not to mention the Foundation series

Similar to 1984 in the sense that they delve (very deeply) into the human psyche when confronted with certain situations. Plenty of action though, but it's intelligent action. Hell his books are some of the most intellectual stories I've ever read, but they're presented in a surprisingly clear and realistic manner.

In his forewards, he specifically sates (something along these lines): "I refuse to write in a manner that might (If I was good at it) win me a Pulitzer Prize. I will write clearly and concisely, and so form a good relationship with my readers"

Yep! I plan to pick this up as soon as I finish "Outbound Flight" by Timothy Zahn.

Fahrenheit 451 or Brave New World. BNW is more thought provoking than 1984 in my opinion.

Also check out Slaughter House Five, very quick read but very enjoyable
