Need a Beginners guide to Wi-Fi

Hi All:

I will soon be getting a Dell 8600 Centrino based laptop. I would like to use wifi hotspots downtown, be they free (ideally) or not. While I know nearly everything about desktops, I know a little bit about Laptops, and virtually nothing about WiFi.

I goggled a beginners guide on wifi, but all it comes up with are ads for books. If anyone knows a good and complete guide to WiFi, please post the link.

I'm looking for a step by step guide on connecting to a WiFi Hotspot when outside, setting security on my laptop; setup a WiFi home network, etc.
