I want to hook my pc monitor up as a tv and just ditch my tube tv. I have a standard cable input, not HD.

What I am looking for:
REMOTE!
basic features...just channel surfing
Solid Name Brand
FM tuner and anything else is a plus

I use windows xp home sp2. There seems to be so many brands and features that I don't know what is good and what is bad.

I have and still use this one w/ and w/o cable box. XtremeTV PVR660. Only real hardware requirement is a powered usb hub. Other then that your ok. It runs on my sisters old dell with a p4 and a nvidia 420mx card. So any video card you have will be good. Comes with remote and fm tuner.

Be aware that beginning Feb 17, 2009, all "off the air" TV will be changing to HD programming.
Cable TV "standard definition" will continue to work with existing equipment, however.
The ATI TV Wonder Pro, 550 & 650 cards should do what you want.
Some HD programming is available via [non-digital] cable. A "QAM compatible" tuner card is required to receive those HD cable channels.
Look on Newegg.com for Aver TV, Hauppauge, or ATI tuner cards.
ATI also offers a TV tuner card that includes a credit-card sized slot, enabling tuning in digital cable channels. It's only
available as part of a complete new PC, however.
