I signed up for this FreedialNow ISP and so far I've had no problems whatsoever using thier service. There is a $5 signup fee and as long as you do not use over 15 hours a month, it will be FREE! , if you go over the 15 hours, it is billed at .85 cents an hour with a maximum charge of $8.50 for unlimited use. The only negative part of it is there is no phone number for techsupport, but they answered my email within 10 minutes! You do not need to install any software and can use Dial-up networking to set the user id and password so there are NO banners! Makes a great ISP to back up a crappy Cable/DSL provider!

Enjoy!

For New York free ISP ( no charge at all, no banners, no interruptions) www.metconnect.com
I use that ISP as back up for years. Only one trouble - sometimes it is not easy to connect. Everything else is perfect.

Mentioned Freedialnow in a December cheap ISP thread (as follows). To me, the real deal is the Freedomlist.com forum, where you can find and discuss all of the dialup deals.

"Freedomlist.com Forums < Go here for up-to-date info on free and low cost dialup ISP services. The top sticky post sorts ISPs by price and reveals any evil fine print, such as hourly surcharges if you go over X hours a month. I recommend that you go with a cheap monthly plan (don't prepay!). Talent Group offers unlimited UUnet backbone access, with no idle timeouts (great for overnight downloads), for $8 a month.

There are a couple of $5 signup, free thereafter, limited ISP's, which give you 10 or 15 hours of banner free access every month.

Freedialnow.com, $5 setup, then 15 free hours each month. This outfit just started up a few days ago.
Access-4-Free, $5 setup, then 10 free hours each month. I have been using Access-4-Free for 6 months as a backup ISP. "

I had a local ISP until about 6 years ago when I got my cable modem. The local dialup ISP was bought out by Earthlink the same month I got cable, and our service cancellation got lost in the shuffle. Earthlink has us signed up for their Premium Plan (or something of the sort) with no billing information. :) I've been using it for years now, on trips and to give out free accounts to friends. Top-notch service, I have to say. I never get busy signals, and I always get 53kbps connection on the road, which actually isn't that slow.

Gotta love corporate takeovers ;)
