Need a Asus board for am AMD64 3000+ 939

Hi!

I'm buiyng an Athlon 64 3000+ and need a good Asus board which let's me use 2 SATA Hard Drives (160GB and 80 GB) and 2 optical drives (DVD ROM + DVD RW). Is the ASUS A8V Deluxe Socket 939 a good choice?

Also, is there any PCI-E already available, and is it worth waiting?

Thanks,

Inikay.

There's PCIe available, but the only one currently available anywhere from Asus is the A8N-SLI for $270. You can find others with one PCIe slot (quite inexpensively too--$130) if you look beyond Asus.

My rig link says you are welcome, but wonders what for. 😀 (If this is too subtle, look to the left of where my message is.)

Chaintech and Gigabyte both have boards out with one PCIe x16 slot.

Hey npapanik:

Your computer looks a lot with the one I want to build, except for the 2 36GB in Raid.

How does it perform? D you think an Asus Radeon A9600XT would do the trick? (I don't play much).

Thanks,

Inikay.

There's a fair bit of difference between a 9800 Pro and a 9600XT. If you go for something more in the 9600XT price range, try either a new 9800 vanilla or a used 9700 Pro.

Happy New Year!

Since you don't play much, 9600 will do the work just fine. The machine is rock stable (even though I am running at 2300MHz, 27% higher than stock MHz)
