I also need be able to update the definations on a constant basis.

McAfee CleanBoot comes to mind, except for the impracticality of getting your hands on it. If your employer happens to have a McAfee grant, see if it includes CleanBoot.

Now I just need to figure out the license I need if I'm going to use this as port of my pc repair services. As I won't be installing it on the computers.

Actually, I think VirusScan Enterprise is fairly good. And I have several hundred thousands of machine-hours backing that opinion. If you're used to McAfee's home-user stuff, then you may find that Enterprise is the polar opposite in terms of configurability, for starters, and with many additional features like buffer-overflow protection and behavior blocking. This page shows all the configuration panels in VS Enterprise 8.0i, with my comments added.

Anyway, back to your main goal: CleanBoot creates a bootable CD that will scan outside of the Windows environment, and its definitions can be updated with McAfee's daily DATs. Licensing, you'd need to ask your NAI rep.

This looks cool if they make it easy to put updates on a disc so you always have the latest defs. If you just use a pre-made CD that may have old defs, it's not that great.
