Need a 680i SLI Motherboard recommendation

Hi all,

I currently have a G0 Q6600 on pre-order and was all set to grab an Abit P35 board. Plans have changed and it now looks like I will also be grabbing a second 8800GTS 640MB for some SLI-goodness along with maybe a beefier PSU(Looking at the Antec TruePower Trio 650W) and a new case(Antec 900). This throws my motherboard choice out the window and now I am back to square one.

My requirements are:

- Needs to be able to fit a Tuniq Tower without major modification

- Can hit around 400Mhz or so FSB with a Quad-core. I already have a 4GB RAM kit that is going in this build and I don't think this stuff will do much above the DDR2-800 that it's rated at. So, a mobo with FSB holes in that general area wouldn't be a great idea.

- Has at least one usable PCI slot for my PhysX card when two GPUs are installed.

- I'd prefer to stick close to the $200 price point, but can be a little flexible.

I've been doing some research on the various 680i models, and they all seem to suck with Quad-cores or they have some horrible flaw, like eating RAM. Has anyone here had reasonable success with the 680i? As I will likely be RAM limited on this build, I really don't need much above 400FSB.

What kinds of problems? I think I'm a prime candidate for a 650i considering that all I want is SLi and Quad-Core support with DTS Connect or DD Live. However, I'm going to be doing 4GB on 64-bit Vista so, if there is any problem with these boards (like the 3 of 4GB useable RAM thing), I'd like to know.

Well, there were some threads on XS about the models based on the reference design eating RAM, and several other models have/had FSB holes with Quads in particular. Gary just did an article yesterday(I didn't see it until after I posted) about all the 680i boards getting BIOS updates for 1333 FSB support, so maybe things are better now.

Though I intend to overclock, I intend to do it on a future board that I am just using this to hold me out until then. I guess the FSB O/C dead-zone doesn't concern me too much, but that memory thing sure does. Thanks for the info!
