Need a 3 way light bulb that...

goes down below 30 watts, but not over 100 watts. Is there such a thing? I've tried a one-way 15 watt and would like around that for a lowest setting, but the lamp says don't use over a 100 watt bulb.
I've seen a security bulb that goes down to 15, but the highest setting is 150. May be my only choice and hope I can remind anyone not to use the highest.
 
A 30/70/100 watt might be your best bet.
Otherwise the flourescent 3 way bulbs are a lot less than 150 watts, but they are also a lot brighter per watt.

Yeah that's what I'm using now, but it doesn't get dim enough. Need one below 30.
 
Well, they make 3-way flourecents. I am using one right now. It is about as bright as a 50/100/150, but consumes lower than 35W or so on high. They cost around $10 each, but they are highly recommended.

Thanks, but I need the actual light output to be low (ie. < 30W). I'm not worried about how much power it actually uses.
 
Can you put a normal bulb in, and replace the switch with a rheostat?

You should be able to dim it pretty low.

rheostats and florescents do not play well.

But, no rheostats and flourescents don't mix.

Why would you want a 3-way bulb if you have a dimmer? Just get a good 100W light and a good dimmer. Problem solved.

Because I could leave that dimmer box on the floor and use the easier to reach lamp switch. Are you saying it wouldn't work?
 
I'm a little curious as to why you would want a bulb lower than 30 watts? What kind of room / application would this bulb be used for?
