Need 8 port managed gigabit ethernet switch

I had a look at both HP Procurve 1800 series and Cisco SRW2008.
Reviews seems to differ from awesome to utter crap for both.

802.1q is a must, don't really care about other features (lacp, ...)

any other decent small managed switches?

I've been very happy with my Procurve switches, running both a 2810-24g and a 1400-24g. They've been rock solid since day 1 and the 2810 sees a lot of iSCSI traffic on a private VLAN while switching the rest of the network no problem.

24 ports is a little bit of overkill for my home environment

The ProCurve 1810G-8 will do what you want. I've used them in the past with no issues.

I haven't used the particular Cisco switch that you listed, but my general experience with Cisco is that they cannot design a GUI if their life depended on it. The managed Cisco Small Business gear I've used in the past has certainly lived up to that expectation, and because they often don't have direct console access, the worthless GUI has made managing the switches a challenge. I'd avoid it if at all possible.
