I have a 7900GT that I'd like to silence and a 7900GS (KO) on the way that will most likely need some silencing/cooling too.

When I got the 7900GT there weren't many options, but one was to shorten up an AC NV5 cooler. I was hoping that there would be more low cost options by now, but there's not a lot to go on. Are there any other under $30 options besides shortening NV5?

Anyone use the vantec iceburq6 and how well does it work?

I saw Zalman VF900, but $50 is too much. This thermaltake TMG ND1 looks good, but is $17 more than the NV5.

Stupid post by me.

The Accelero doesn't fit on the 7900GT :p

If you have the room, one option would be to fit a CPU cooler on your card. I was inspired by this post and put a Sonic Tower on my 7900gs. It mounts diagonally on the card using two holes from the Socket A mounting kit. However, I had trouble finding thin screws to fit the card's small mounting holes.

With the 1.55v mod and no fan, I get temps of 50c idle/ 65c load at 750mhz core.

Thanks for the replys/info!

Tersom,
I was actually thinking of mounting a cpu cooler, but didn't know how and worried about the space. I will be researching this more when I get back tonight.

Gundam,
What kind of temps are you getting with that VF700? Do you oc or run it stock?

Anyone shorten/cut an NV5 and use that? How about that Vantec Iceburq 6?

I haven't looked around for the 7900GT but I am running the 7800GT EVGA w/ a Artic Cooling Silencer 5 and it works rather well. Very quiet , one of the easiest aftermarket installs I have ever done for any heatsink. Just dropped right on and tightened down very easily and secure without worry of damage. I don't know what will work for you but I am very pleased with the Silencer I used with my 7800GT.

Good Luck.

EDIT : I just looked at your list of coolers, that ThermalTake looks basically the same design of the artic cooling silencer I am using. That would be my best guess after the few minutes of looking around. I love how it just drops down on each memory module and gpu , perfect fit, no mess.

Accerelo, like most coolers, doesn't fit.

The thermaltake cooler would drop right in, but it's like $49 shipped to me. If it only does what a shortened nv5 does ($25 shipped or less), I'd rather save some money. Plus I might need 2 of them if the 7900GS uses the same kind of cooler as the GT.

I have a 7900GT with AC NV5 (shortened) on it. My 7900GS has a passive Evercool dual heatpipe cooler on it - just cooled by an undervolted Yate Loon 120mm case fan between it and the PSU.

Nice. Same cards. Are both of them oc'd or stock or???

I'd like to try that passive technique on the 7900GS and make that box as silent as possible. 3 120mm fans (front/side/rear), a quiet seagate hd, and ss optical drive. Where did you get the evercool dual and how much was it.

Thanks!

Grabbed that masscool vf1 plus from ne for $32 shipped. Used paypal and so it's giving back $15. Hopefully one rig will be quiet and the other will now be silent.
