Didn't know where exactly I should post this; it's hardware, and computer related, so I stuck it in General Hardware.
I need a cable extension for a modem module.
On one end, it will need the same type of connector that a hard drive uses(IDC), except this needs to be 16 pin. I have found a source to get the female part. However, the other end needs to be male - I have been unable to find a 16-pin male IDC connector. I've tried All Electronics, Electronic Goldmine, and MJPA with no luck. Any other places I should try?

I don't know, man. Where are you? See if there's a Fry's in your area, they're usually good about these little cables and things.

Have you tried Digikey.com?

Thanks; it'll be awhile till the catalog downloads. My cable modem is giving me ISDN speeds for the past few weeks; been trying about that long to get my ISP to send someone out here.
(Can't switch; there are no other reasonably priced broadband providers within 10 miles. :()

AAAHH! Woah! They want $6.68 for it! Thanks for the link; it looks like what I need, but that's...sheesh. If that kind of socket really cost that much to make, motherboards would be a lot more expensive than they are. I'll check through Digikey first.
Thanks for finding that for me though.

*sigh*
Looks like I'm going to have to figure out how to construct one myself. Digikey has the EXACT cable type I need: IDC male, 16 pin one end, female other end. Problem: It's $11.31 for a single 6" cable!
Wondering about just getting a 16-pin header, some heat shrink tubing, and soldering the wires to the header. I didn't think this would be anywhere near that expensive. I figured that a small socket like that would cost a dollar or so.
Thanks all for your help though; thanks for that Digikey link too; going to have to sift through that catalog for other stuff sometime.
