I think I'm missing something obvious. I just built a system with a Phenom II X4 955 processor on an Asus M4A79 XTD EVO motherboard. When I run PC Wizard, it tells me one CPU is enabled. I then run AMD overdrive and it shows three of the CPUs grayed out. What am I doing wrong?

A BIOS upgrade?

Maybe it's a C3 955 and the motherboard doesn't recognize it.

try to uninstall any cpu related driver in windows and start win up again, sometimes when you upgrade cpu, the windows driver needs a refresh.

Task manager shows only one CPU as well? I had a similar issue when I got my 955 BE. In my case I had only one core running at normal speed and the other three were running with x4 multiplier. Updated BIOS fixed it.

Task manager only shows one processor. I deleted the AMD drivers and restarted windows. That did not work. The notes for the AMD drivers say Cool n Quiet is needed for the drivers to work. I have scoured the AMD site looking for Cool n Quiet drivers for XP and I cannot find them anywhere. A search at Microsoft turned up nothing.

I'm pretty sure it's my Windows XP installation. I can only select the "standard PC" HAL, which is a single processor configuration. I cannot figure out how to add HAL profiles so I can use halmacpi.dll. Looks like I'll have to upgrade to Windows 7 after all.
