Serious gaming
Athlon/P3 600Mhz
GeForce2 GTS
256Megs RAM
10Gig HD

Moderate gaming
Celery 500Mhz/Duron 600Mhz
TnT2 Ultra
128Megs RAM
5Gig HD

Light gaming (read: Solitaire)
Celery 333Mhz
Matrox G400
64Megs RAM
2.5Gig HD

Those are what I would consider minimum specs for each type of gaming in Win2k.

hence SOLITAIRE :D

minumum specs i would recommend are:
duron/cel 500
tnt2
128mb ram
hard disk big enough to fit your games and apps (4+ gigs)

(this is pretty much the same as pliotronx said)

But he might not want to use the box exclusively for gaming. If you're doing anything besides gaming on your machine I say the frell w/ Win9x period. Eveytime I go to a 9x machine to use it I fell like I'm using absolute JUNK. Linux and/or Win2k is all there is for a poweruser.

Claiming that 98 plays beeter in games than 2k is the comment of the ignorant. With proper configuration, 2k is far superior. ALL of my games GL and DX play at least as fast under 2k, In 3DMark2001, I get 4994 under 2k, a full 100pts higher that 98/me. Not to mention the superior GL performance of 2k and stability which is also key to gaming, it is tough to play a frozen game.

<< Pure and simple GAMING=Win98SE >>

have you been living under a rock? win98 has horrible memory management compared to 2k, not to mention you have to restart daily. ntfs is better security, and most rigs around here only notice like a 5 fps drop going to 2k, if any drop at all
